KEISHA ST. JOAN PRESENTS ALL IN THE FAMILY PART 1 JUNE 12, 2010

Come See the Jazzlioness, Keisha St. Joan, performing her "All in the Family (Part 1) Series":

She likes to consider herself an Ambassador of Jazz. Miles Davis, through marriage to her cousin, Cicely Tyson, has been a great influence throughout her career. Because of jazz, she has seen countless countries. Like spreading the gospel, she says: "There are people all over the world connected by jazz. In any country and time there is jazz. There is no separation between people. We may not all speak the same language, but we understand the music. It's all intertwined. We all play the tune together".

St. Joan expounds soothingly but passionately, "Jazz comes from the spirit not the intellect. That's what is so beautiful about music. Sound is more of a feeling than an idea". Her music is like being baptized by a spiritual sound that makes you a rapt follower. Keisha wants to show you Light in a dark world.

But it wasn't always so easy for her. Like all of us she's had her struggles.

She had cancer 43 years ago in 1967. It was the tumultuous time of the civil rights movement, and it was also going on inside of her…the assassination of the Kennedy’s, Martin Luther King, the Vietnam War. Keisha reflects, “ The cancer was on the inside of my body and also outside in society at large.”
It was battle after battle. She came through it all with the help of the Spirit which is the essence of her music.

"Getting lost in music, is not about running away from problems. It’s about finding the strength within yourself. All I try to do is empower. It’s not about retreat. It’s about victory over doubt, and release."
Anyone wanting to experience a bit of bliss should run to Saint Peter's Church to witness Keisha St. Joan engage you with her mystical impartation of healing.

It’s rare talent like this that takes us closer not only to the Heavens but to ourselves.

"It's the music of healing - that's what I do best...I thank God that He has placed me in this field.
